I did this painting for the 2011 Blab! group show opening at Roq La Rue in Seattle on August 12th. The theme was "The Krampus", a somewhat forgotten Scandinavian counterpart to St. Nick, who punished the wicked children by beating them with sticks, and putting coal in their stocking. These days Santa outsources all that stuff and the Krampus must do with being honored in pop counter culture.
I chose a more metaphorical route, trying to capture the ideology of the Krampus without resorting to just painting another tired picture of him.
