Aquanauts: Distant Origins Picture

I had some down time from the concept work I was doing last year and decided to get away from the computer and do an oil painting.  This ended up being the only piece of art I could enter into Spectrum 19 and out of 6000+ entries it got in.

I liked the idea of doing a simple portrait of a human officer standing between two opposing alien races on some distant aquatic planet.   I gave two of the aliens’ gills to suggest some common link between the two.   Here is the result.  24” x 40” Oil on MDF panel.
